YEARLY EXAM

Now is the time for a full baseline exam. It includes vital signs (pulse, Blood Pressure, etc.), pelvic exam, Pap Smear, breast exam, and laboratory testing. The object is to prevent future disease before it becomes a problem.

For example, on your pap smear or with Colposcopy we can pick up abnormal cells (dysplasia) that are easy to treat with cryosurgery before they develop into cervical dysplasia or cancer.

We can screen for a host of other medical problems with our physical exam and our laboratory testing so that we can catch irregularities before they present a problem. We will, also make sure that your vaccinations are up to date.

In sum, we can catch disease or potential disease before it becomes a problem.

At this exam, we will also address any present concerns that you might have like, for example, Birth control, itching, pain etc. and treat them appropriately. We can also begin treatment on any of the other gynecologic, urinary or cosmetic issues that you would like us to deal with.

PAP SMEAR

A Pap smear is a critical part of your annual pelvic exam as a screen for infections and cervical cancer. The adage, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure,” is true.

You owe it to yourself and your loved ones to schedule and complete your annual exam. It is easy to do and painless and may prevent a world of agony in the future.

HPV

Most human papillomavirus (HPV) infections clear on their own, but some can linger and lead to serious problems like cancer or genital warts. Our physicians and nurse practitioners will use regular Pap smears, culposcopic examination and other testing, if necessary, to determine if you are exposed to one of the strains that can develop into cancer or genital warts then treat it appropriately. Please call or click on the blue “Request an Appointment” link for your annual exam.

PCOS (Polycystic ovary syndrome)

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a hormonal imbalance that is common among women of reproductive age. Symptoms of period irregularity, pelvic pain, and hair growth can cause aggravation on a regular basis. Luckily, it is a treatable condition. Our Medical staff is dedicated to relieving the tiresome symptoms of PCOS and providing an improvement in your health and physical appearance.

FIBROIDS

These noncancerous tumors can cause heavy menstrual bleeding and pelvic pain, but there are several treatment options available. Dr. Daniel Kushner specializes in gynecology at his practice in New York.

Dr. Kushner takes a conservative approach to treatment by offering minimally invasive surgery options that can help with bleeding, reserving major surgery, like a hysterectomy, for only severe cases. To learn more, call or book an appointment online.

ENDOMETRIOSIS

Endometriosis is often overlooked as a possible cause of pelvic pain. It’s essential to have an extensive physical exam along with diagnostic testing to get a comprehensive look at what could be causing your discomfort. Sometimes ultrasonography is helpful. Sometimes laparoscopy is required for a definitive diagnosis.

If you are trying to prevent pregnancy, birth control Pills often keep the problem and the pain under control.

If you are planning to get pregnant, success will often be dependent on close supervision with our medical staff.

OVARIAN CYSTS

Ovarian cysts are common, but they can cause discomfort, uncertainty, and pain. They are usually discovered at the time of your pelvic exam and may require follow up evaluation.

URINARY TRACT INFECTION

Treated with antibiotics and antispasmodics. To be on the safe side, a culture of the urine should be done prior to treatments in order to determine the causative agent.

PELVIC PAIN

Causes can range from menstrual discomfort to severe pelvic inflammatory disease. There are many many causes including but not limited to endometriosis, ectopic pregnancy, ovarian cyst leakage or rupture, volvulus of the fallopian tube, appendicitis, PID (pelvic inflammatory disease), urinary tract infection, renal disease, regional enteritis, etc.

The earlier that it is evaluated, the quicker the problem is solved.

STD’s

URINARY INCONTINENCE

What an inconvenience!! This is a common issue in women because, as opposed to men, they have a very short urethra. Symptoms can be treated with medication, exercises and surgery.

Uncomfortable moments can be mitigated with pads of various ability to absorb. But Urinary Incontinence usually requires surgical intervention to be fixed or at least improved.

VAGINAL BLEEDING

Our gynecologists and nurse practitioners are fully skilled and equipped to diagnose any of the causes of irregular bleeding and to take the appropriate steps necessary to make sure that you receive the best care and treatment for the problem. Here is a list of most of the most common causes of irregular vaginal bleeding.

  • General Medical Causes – bleeding dyscrasia (for example thrombocytopenia or Von Willebrand disease), that is an abnormal clotting process; kidney or liver disease; celiac disease.
  • Trauma – (physical abuse or accidental trauma) on the vulva or in the vagina or the cervix or uterous from sexual intercourse, foreign objects etc.
  • Physician Caused Bleeding – IUD; insertion, post surgery; medications with anti coagulative properties; changing or stopping Birth Control Pills etc.
  • Pregnancy – miscarriage, placental abruption, placenta previa, irritation in the vaginal canal, placenta accrete and increta, ectopic pregnancy.
